The First Weekend
This weekend, I've prepared myself to dedicate serious study to screenwriting, if for no better reason than to add the extra commitment and accountability of a public facing journal. I keep many journals, most notably my Morning Pages journal as recommended by The Artist's Way. This one is merely intended to document the specific journey I've taken through screenwriting, starting with a small fascination that has slowly festered into an obsession.
I must learn about this and my drive almost feels out of my control. I write fiction full time, publishing at least 50,000 words in a month. I've been doing this consistently and in my niche, I regularly land in the top new release or best-seller slot on Amazon. I'm no stranger to pulling a project together from nothing... and that's what this is going to be.
In starting my screenwriting education, I've come across a few questions which I may attempt to answer throughout the history of this blog. Here they are:
I'm looking forward to making this a really cool personal exploration + educational journey. I'm going to format all my posts so that they aren't just boring life updates, but so that you can get something out of them. This blog feels very isolated so if you're out there, please write "hi" in the comments so I know I'm not just screaming into the void.
You're angsty writer,

In starting my screenwriting education, I've come across a few questions which I may attempt to answer throughout the history of this blog. Here they are:
- Why don't we learn screenwriting or playwriting in school? I wish I had earlier exposure to this type of writing (and trust me, I went to some great schools.)
- Why are stories about black people not seen as "marketable" despite recent history proving otherwise?
- Why must stories about black people fit within certain tropes and how can we fight to change this as writers, creatives or consumers?
- Why aren't more black people in writers' rooms and how can we change this?
- TV or movies? Which do I prefer? This is a personal question. Currently (10/27/18), I'm more drawn to TV series writing as I tend not to watch as many movies as the average person. I appreciate a good movie but I tend to like series and serials more. Am I doomed?
