A Break From Script Reading

This week I've been feeling like I need a break from script reading. I've read a few and of course, there are so many more movies to watch and scripts to read. I've been educating myself in other ways in preparation for starting a screenplay within the next month or two.

1. Analyzing TV and movies

I pay attention to different elements of the script and try to work out in my head what is happening to deconstruct the plot and I also take a look at the descriptive elements. What would I include if I were to transcribe this screenplay from what I'm watching? What details stand out to the screenwriter and which don't?

2. Brainstorming Movie Ideas

I've come up with some cool movie ideas and I've created interesting flashcards of scenes or moments that I would want to include. When I start on Syd Field's other book, I hope I can have a nice collection of flashcards to work from and ideas to incorporate. I don't want to be too attached to any particular screenplay idea so I'm trying out a bunch to see what work.

3. Researching Movie Ideas & Background Information

One of the movie ideas that I have takes place in a different part of the world and I've been studying the history of that part of the world to better contextualize what I want to portray or to decide whether I want to portray that topic at all.

Some of this doesn't feel as glamorous as when I'm highly motivated to read large numbers of screenplays, but it's a part of the process for me right now. With work, I've been dealing with chronic pain flare-ups in my wrists from typing which discourages a lot of studying as well. The best way for me to deal with this is accepting it and keeping off the wrists as much as possible outside of work hours.

Here's my update for now and I hope I can get back in the screenplay game soon and keep up the intensive reading.
